There's Hope if you've been Hurt!
Welcome to churchone! We are so glad for your visit! We are here to draw the Church together - one broken soul at a time. It's possible that the article below describes your experience with fellow Christians. If so, please know that you are not alone and that Jesus Himself knows the pain you are feeling. He also has a passion for your healing! Your healing and subsequent vitality is one of His chief concerns. In fact, your healing, your life, your spiritual vigor is critically important to His mission in the world.
Churchone exists to bring that hope and healing directly to you. Here you'll find a lot to identify with as you walk with other believers. You'll find help in hard situations. You'll find encouragement from others who have made some huge mistakes and learned from them. You'll find a sensitivity to relationships mined from the words of Jesus and His followers. You'll find a transparency about failure and a thankfulness for victory that should be refreshing.
Our hope is that you'll find just one line in one blog that will draw you closer to Christ. That's enough to thrill our hearts!! Thanks for checking us out.
The Church - As deadly as WWII?
Ask anyone. Anyone, that is, who has been involved in church or Christian ministry for any length of time, “Have you ever been hurt by a fellow believer?” Or ask, “Have you ever felt judged, belittled, or resigned to a ‘second class Christian status’ by another believer?" Do you feel distant from another believer over his insistence that you agree with his standard, his conscience on a matter, or her particular “brand” of Christianity? Have you ever found yourself in an uncomfortable conversation or heated argument while trying to convince someone toward a specific point of view on a “spiritual” topic?
Further, have you ever been accused of breaking a spiritual standard, or “going liberal”, or being “Puritanical”, or not standing for the Faith, or not being “Spirit filled”, or using a substandard Bible version, or any other such peculiarity? These accusations cut deep and often leave us questioning our acceptance before God. Perhaps you’ve been discarded by an individual or group of believers because you didn’t meet up to a set of spoken or unspoken directives that may or may not have solid Biblical foundations. If so, you have been on the receiving end of one of the most destructive influences in the Church. You have experienced a sort of attack. You may feel maimed, defaced, ashamed, unqualified, unloved…fill in your own adjective.
Did you know that nearly 4 out of 10 (37%) non-churchgoing Americans state the reason they do not attend church is due to negative past experiences with churches or church people? The estimate of unchurched people in America is 100,000,000. That’s 37,000,000 people claiming to be hurt by professing Christians! (Barna, 2010, Millions of Unchurched…) That’s a lot of hurt! World War II claims conservatively to have cost 40,000,000 lives worldwide. The spiritual casualties in America alone are enough to rival that war. The disturbing and alarming thing about it is that ours is a civil war – we are battling ourselves. The statistic mentioned only includes those who no longer attend. What about those who have been hurt but hang in there? How big is that number? Are you numbered among the wounded? Or maybe worse, have you been the aggressor?
